A Study in Merlot

Hail fellows, well met, greetings, salutations and thank you for attending this study in Merlot, a chronicle of man's passion for excellence, and a compendium of the finest epicurean pursuits in the history of history. As Oscar Wilde observed: "Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation." As I hope you shall see in these studies, Merlot is certainly not "most people" in Wilde's sense.

Merlot Replies to Mr. Kabore Mohammed's Offer

Greetings Kabore Mohammed,
I am Merlot, and it is my pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am perhaps the leading boxed wine critic in North America if not the world. My extensive resume includes vast wine industry experience, and is far too comprehensive a list of achievements to enumerate at this time.
Nevertheless, your offer intrigues me. Generally speaking, we are ordinarily not the kind of individual to gain from another's misfortune. However, Merlot is not adverse to making smart business decisions when they circumstances warrant fast action, if you will. Moreover, at this time, it so happens, whether by happenstance, the work of the fates, or divination, that I am in the process of striking out in a new direction with the purchase of a wine selling establishment in Bridgeport Connecticut of America, where I shall feature American boxed wine, and several varieties of foreign blends, along with premium cheese, smoked meats and the very best America crackers available.

And so, your offer of some percentage of $4.6 million dollars to be forwarded to my account for simply furnishing my banking and contact information is intriguing. I would like to hear more about your offer; and to further discuss the distribution of funds.

However, I would like to discuss your use of funds, if in fact we can agree to come to terms on this transaction. More to the point, I would like to make you a business proposition. To that end, I would like you to consider investing the proceeds of this transaction with Merlot, in our wine store, where we shall feature some of the finest boxed wines in North America and parts of Chile. I believe we can agree to come to terms quite quickly, if I can get your commitment to invest your portion of the proceeds of our mutual good fortune in one of America's finest wine stores, which only requires your commitment to be made real.

Kind regards,
I remain,
Merlot.
