A Study in Merlot

Hail fellows, well met, greetings, salutations and thank you for attending this study in Merlot, a chronicle of man's passion for excellence, and a compendium of the finest epicurean pursuits in the history of history. As Oscar Wilde observed: "Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation." As I hope you shall see in these studies, Merlot is certainly not "most people" in Wilde's sense.

Merlot's Reply to Mr. William Parker's Extraordinary Offer

Mr. Parker,
I am Merlot. It is a pleasure to receive such a generous offer.  I must disclose that while your offer is of interest, I am in discussion with two other gentlemen from Africa who have extended similar offers.  While your offer and their offers do come at a very opportune time for my associate, Voignier and I, we must honor the first offer to deliver the funds.

We are not greedy men, but we do want to build the best chain of boxed wine stores we can.  We would have to insist that if we are able to agree on terms, that you would invest a portion of the bounty in our retail boxed wine enterprise.  If you are willing to extend us your guarantee that you will invest part of your share of the proceeds in our wine business, then I think we can safely say that we may be able to entertain your offer, in addition to the other two gentleman who have contacted us with similar business propositions.

It seems very easy to us; and we would be delighted to speak with you further on the subject.

Kind regards,
on behalf of my self, and
Voignier.
I remain,
Merlot
